The Cass County Republican Party censured Rep. Fred Upton for the second time in as many months, but this time it wasn’t about voting to impeach former President Donald Trump.
Instead, the latest rebuke, which happened Tuesday night, came in response to Upton’s vote to remove Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Georgia Republican, from her committee assignments.
“We believe Congressman Upton’s vote is a betrayal of his oath of office and core values of the Cass County Republican Party,” the resolution stated, according to Detroit News.
HOUSE DEMOCRATS STRIP MARJORIE TAYLOR GREENE OF COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS
The resolution said the vote to remove Greene from her committee assignments was akin to having her “canceled” because she is “unafraid to speak out.”
Greene of Georgia was stripped of her committee assignments on Feb. 4 in a largely partisan vote as she faced outrage for past comments in support of conspiracy theories such as QAnon, flirtations with 9/11 trutherism, and social media posts that some took as threatening violence against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
The Cass County GOP resolution said Greene’s comments “have not been out of line with anyone else’s.”
Upton took exception with that line, responding in a Twitter thread.
“Really?” he said, before adding, “She taunted a Parkland school shooting survivor, argued that California wildfires were started by a Jewish space laser, accused Democratic politicians of running a pedophile ring out of a pizza parlor, and questioned whether 9/11 really happened.”
On the eve of a House vote to strip the Georgia Republican of her committee assignments, Greene apologized for subscribing to the QAnon conspiracy theory and claiming deadly school shootings were staged during a closed-door meeting with fellow House Republicans.
The day after Greene was removed from her assignments, she said, “I woke up early this morning literally laughing thinking about what a bunch of morons the Democrats (+11) are for giving some one like me free time. In this Democrat tyrannical government, Conservative Republicans have no say on committees anyway,” adding, “Oh this is going to be fun!”
“Does the Cass GOP really think someone like that represents Republican values and should be serving on the education committee? I served on that committee and met with Columbine school shooting survivors,” Upton added. “I have since met with Parkland and Sandy Hook School shooting survivors and heard all of their personal stories. She should not be on the education committee, and Congress was right to remove her, period.”

Republican lawmakers, including Upton and Rep. Liz Cheney, who voted in favor of the second impeachment effort against Trump have faced backlash at home.
The South Carolina Republican Party voted to formally censure Rep. Tom Rice, LaSalle County Republican Central Committee censured GOP Illinois Rep. Adam Kinzinger, while the Washington State Republican Party rebuked Dan Newhouse and Jaime Herrera Beutler.
Trump was acquitted by the Senate on one charge of incitement of insurrection in connection to the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
