James Comey on why Hillary Clinton should read his book: She’ll think I’m ‘kind of an honest idiot’

Former FBI Director James Comey hopes Hillary Clinton, who has accused him of playing a role in her stunning loss to President Trump, will read his book.

In his book, A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership, Comey describes why he announced days before the election that an investigation into Clinton’s private email server had been reopened.

The options of whether or not to publicly reveal the decision were “really bad” and “catastrophic.” He went with the “really bad” option, deciding to reveal the reopened investigation.

“I even hope that Hillary Clinton at least reads those parts of the book, because I think she will walk away saying, ‘You know what? I still think that guy is an idiot, but, you know, he’s kind of an honest idiot,'” he said in an interview with USA Today. “‘He’s trying to do the right thing here.'”

Clinton has faulted Comey for his handling of the investigation into her emails, saying he cost her votes in the final days leading up to the election.

Comey writes in book, which hits shelves Tuesday, that he would “do some things differently” in his handling of the email investigation.
