Former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci warned President Trump that if he continued to push a “racist” theme in his reelection campaign, he and many others won’t vote for him.
Scaramucci’s comments come amid recent calls from the president that left-leaning freshmen Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib and Ayanna Pressley to “go back” to their native countries, which began on Twitter over the weekend. During a Thursday night rally, when Trump was railing on Omar, the crowd chanted “send her back!”
The former White House staffer, who called Trump’s initial tweets “racist” and “unacceptable,” was interviewed by CNN’s Alisyn Camerota on New Day Thursday morning about the president’s recent trend.
“If he continues on that path he’s going to lose like a glacier of support is going to break off and float away from him in a way that he doesn’t fully understand,” he said.
“Would you still support him?” Camerota responded.
“Oh, not just my support. I think the message to the president is there’s going to be a large glacier of people that under their breath are saying, ‘This is ridiculous,'” Scaramucci answered. “He has friends of his in the White House that are working for him that are telling reporters that these tweets are racist. But I can’t say anything because I got to keep my job and when that glacier breaks, it’ll be very bad.”
He later labeled Trump’s remarks as “reminiscent of McCarthyism.”
The Palm Beach County GOP disinvited Scaramucci from speaking at its annual fundraiser as a result of his attacks against Trump over the tweets, Politico reported Thursday.
