Political commentator Jeffrey Lord condemned Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of the social media company, on Tuesday over the tech giant’s decision to censor two famous Trump supporting sisters, Diamond and Silk.
Lord insisted that Facebook would not have suppressed content from the two African-American women had they been liberal.
“If they were African-American women who were liberal, no one at Facebook would have blinked when they posted something,” Lord said on Fox News. “The fact that they are African-American women who love Donald Trump, that’s not supposed to happen.”
“So they have to be curbed,” he added.
Lynette Hardaway and Rochelle Richardson, also known as “Diamond and Silk” started experiencing censorship by the social network last year when the notifications for when they went live stopped being sent out to their followers. After questioning Facebook, the policy team said they had deemed them “unsafe to the community.”
“This decision is final and it is not appeal-able in any way,” Facebook policy team said in an email to the two sisters, according to the Washington Post.
Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, took on Zuckerberg during a joint hearing before the Senate Commerce and Judiciary Committees on Tuesday, grilling the CEO on Facebook’s alleged biases against conservatives.
“There are a great many Americans who I think are deeply concerned that Facebook and other tech companies are engaged in a pervasive pattern of bias and political censorship,” the Cruz told Zuckerberg.
“[Facebook] most recently blocked trump supporters Diamond and Silk’s page with 1.2 million Facebook followers after determining their content and brand were ‘unsafe to the community,'” Cruz added
Lord was speaking with Fox News host Laura Ingraham when he made the remarks about Diamond and Silk being targeted for being African-American Trump supporters.
Later in the interview, Ingraham noted that Zuckerberg did say he he wants all voices on Facebook to be heard after Cruz pointed out the alleged conservative censorship.
“What we’re dealing with here are people who have a liberal bias,” Lord replied. “I mean Diamond and Silk. I could not believe that. I know Diamond and Silk. They are fabulous people. The notion that they are unsafe for the community, that is crazy.”
Lord was fired from CNN, where he served as a pro-Trump commentator, last summer after using a Nazi salute on Twitter.
