Video footage from a Pride event in Tennessee went viral after capturing a child seemingly stroking the groin area of a performer.
The clip comes from Chattanooga Pride’s “All-Age Pride Day” at the WanderLinger Brewing Company music venue on Saturday. At the time, a cast of all-female actresses dressed as Disney princesses took the stage for karaoke, according to Chattanooga Pride. One child approached an actress dressed as Ariel from The Little Mermaid to touch the reversible sequin fabric of her mermaid tail costume.
“What the clip did not show was the performer redirecting the child by shifting to the side,” Chattanooga Pride wrote in a post on Wednesday.

Former congressional candidate Robby Starbuck and a relative were in attendance to take the video, sharing it with local media outlet the Unsilent Patriot. The outlet responded to the accusations of editing the video in a post on Wednesday.
“I was accused of editing this video to ‘cut off’ the part where the ‘mermaid re-directed the child’s hand.’ That is a lie,” the post read. “Here is the entire clip. It was only shortened previously to fit into a more condensed video with other clips. The mermaid NEVER redirected the child’s hand.”
Chattanooga Pride also clarified that not all the clips originally posted in the video were from the same event intended for children. While the organization sponsored all four events featured in the video, some were marketed as 18+. In the future, the organization plans to increase its security.
“Recording innocent children without telling them, or their parents, [is] very dangerous,” Chattanooga Pride warned in a post. “Parents of the children are also getting threats.”

Events of a similar nature “featuring arts and crafts, vendors, speakers, storytime, and a family friendly drag show” will go on, according to the organization.
