Michael Flynn’s son expresses gratitude for support as Mueller recommends no jail time for his father

Former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn’s son tweeted his gratitude after the special counsel announced it was asking for no jail time for his father, who was once part of President Trump’s transition team.

“God is good. To those who have supported us throughout this process….Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I will never forget you,” Michael Flynn Jr. posted to Twitter.

Special counsel Robert Mueller said in the 13-page heavily redacted memo that the elder Flynn “has assisted with several ongoing investigations,” and he was interviewed by Mueller’s team 19 times.

“The defendant deserves credit for accepting responsibility in a timely fashion and substantially assisting the government,” Mueller’s team wrote in the memo.

Last year the general plead guilty to lying to the FBI regarding his contact with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak during the 2016 presidential campaign.

“Additionally, the defendant’s decision to plead guilty and cooperate likely affected the decisions of related firsthand witnesses to be forthcoming with the [special counsel] and cooperate,” prosecutors wrote.

Flynn is one of five Trump aides to plead guilty in the special counsel investigation into Russian involvement in the 2016 election, and the second Trump aide, after George Papadopoulos, to reach a plea deal with Mueller.
