2020 Democrat Tom Steyer said that the winner of the most recent presidential debate was actually a candidate who was not on the stage: President Trump.
Steyer, 62, who did not qualify for the debate himself, anointed Trump the winner of Wednesday night’s event during an appearance on CNN the next morning.
“Well, I saw the person who won the debate last night whose name is Donald Trump. That’s the first thing I’d say,” the billionaire stated after being asked what he saw throughout the debate.
“Because I saw so much bickering between Democratic candidates, tearing each other down and going after each other and forgetting the fact that what really counts is beating Donald Trump in November of 2020,” he went on. “I saw people going after each other’s personality and records instead of remembering that, in fact, the Democratic Party needs to win in November.”
The six candidates who qualified for the debate stage didn’t pull any punches, attacking each other on policy, experience, and past positions on the issues.
After the conclusion of the debate, Steyer shared another opinion about what he learned from the event, tweeting, “One lesson from tonight — looks like Mike Bloomberg might be running in the wrong primary.”
