Trump: James Comey was the ‘worst FBI Director in history’

President Trump said Wednesday that James Comey was the “worst FBI Director in history,” and his firing a year ago had nothing to do with the Russia investigation.

“Slippery James Comey, the worst FBI Director in history, was not fired because of the phony Russia investigation where, by the way, there was NO COLLUSION (except by the Dems)!” Trump tweeted.

Trump has repeatedly said Comey wasn’t fired as a result of investigating Russian collusion with his aides, and instead says he was acting on the recommendation of his Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who wrote a memo outlining the mistakes Comey made investigating Hillary Clinton’s private email server.

But Trump also said last year that he was going to fire Comey regardless of Rosenstein’s memo. That has led to speculation that Trump fired Comey because of the role he was playing in the Russia investigation.
