White House senior adviser Kellyanne Conway said Friday that former FBI Director James Comey’s new book is nothing more than an attempt to whip up the handful of meetings he had with the president in order to make money.
Speaking on Fox News, Conway said she meets with Trump for more time in one day than Comey ever did.
“I spend more time in the Oval Office in a given day than this man got to spend with the president over the course of his very brief tenure before he was fired,” she said.
“He’s taking one or two or three meetings with the president, and retroactively putting his own spin on them to sell books,” she added. “It seems to me that he sounds like a disgruntled ex-employee who after the fact wants to clear his conscious of what bothered him at the time.”
“If you’re that bothered, quit. Leave the job,” Conway said.
Conway also questioned whether it makes sense for Comey to be out there selling a book while there’s an active investigation still taking place into Russia’s election meddling, one that Comey used to lead.
“I find that to be pretty self-aggrandizing,” she said.
Excerpts of Comey’s book, “A Higher Loyalty,” have started to leak, and reveal that Comey did not like Trump. Comey writes that Trump reminded him of a mob boss and wore ties that were too long.
