Trump tells China to keep tight controls on North Korea border as talks continue

President Trump tweeted Monday that China must maintain strict controls on its border with North Korea as the U.S. begins negotiating an end to North Korea’s nuclear weapons program.

“China must continue to be strong & tight on the Border of North Korea until a deal is made,” Trump said. “The word is that recently the Border has become much more porous and more has been filtering in. I want this to happen, and North Korea to be VERY successful, but only after signing!”

It is expected that Trump will meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on June 12 in Singapore to discuss denuclearization of the Korean peninsula. Trump says those talks are happening because of the tough sanctions the world imposed against the North.

However, the North threatened last week to cancel the meeting following joint military exercises between the U.S. and South Korea.
