‘We’re literally hunted everyday’: LeBron James angered over shooting of unarmed black man in Georgia

NBA star LeBron James weighed in on the shooting of an unarmed black man in Georgia earlier this year, an incident that the man’s family and civil rights activists have deemed a hate crime.

“We’re literally hunted EVERYDAY/EVERYTIME we step foot outside the comfort of our homes,” James said. “Can’t even go for a damn jog man! Like WTF man are you kidding me?!?!?!?!?!? No man fr ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!!!”

James continued, “I’m sorry Ahmaud(Rest In Paradise) and my prayers and blessings sent to the … heavens above to your family.”

The Los Angeles Lakers player finished his message with the hashtag: #ProfiledCauseWeAreSimplyBlack

Ahmaud Arbery, 25, was shot and killed in February while going for a jog in a neighborhood outside Brunswick, Georgia. Police identified two white men, Gregory McMichael, 64, and his son, Travis McMichael, 34, as the shooters.

An alleged video of the altercation has been shared widely on social media.

Gregory McMichael told police he and his son believed Arbery was the suspect in a string of break-ins and robberies around the area and were alarmed when they saw him “hauling ass” through the neighborhood.

He told investigators Arbery “began to violently attack” them, and “the two men then started fighting over the shotgun,” according to the police report. Gregory McMichael is a former police officer in the area and currently works in the district attorney’s office.

Two prosecutors have recused themselves from the case, citing a potential conflict of interest.

This week, a third prosecutor recommended a grand jury consider criminal charges against the McMichaels, who an attorney for the Arbery family says targeted the young man because he was black.

“Ahmaud Arbery’s life matters, and the fact that you have proof of the crime, you have a video … black people get arrested everyday with far less evidence,” Ben Crump told USA Today.
