Former presidential candidate Andrew Yang is making good on a promise to give 13 Americans $1,000 a month for the next year.
Yang, who has received rave reviews since joining CNN as a commentator after ending his presidential bid last week, advocated giving all adult Americans $1,000 a month as part of his Universal Basic Income plan, which he liked to refer to as a “freedom dividend.” During a Democratic debate appearance in September, the entrepreneur announced a $1,000 cash giveaway to 13 Americans in an attempt to promote the value of his freedom dividend proposal.
“Just sent a couple freedom dividends in the mail this morning,” Yang tweet on Thursday. “One of my proudest aspects of the campaign — 13 Americans got $1,000 a month for a year. They won’t be the last ones.”
Although Yang never drew more than 4% in national polling, his campaign was celebrated for its outside-the-box thinking and Yang’s willingness to be levelheaded on topics ranging from President Trump’s impeachment to his openness to appear on Fox News.
