Republican Sens. Ted Cruz and Ron Johnson will meet with truckers as the “People’s Convoy” continues to circle the Washington, D.C., Beltway to “end the State of Emergency that led to overreaching mandates.”
While D.C. law enforcement has beefed up security in anticipation of the convoy, which was inspired by the Canadian “Freedom Convoy,” the group has said it has no plans to shut down traffic.
“We are law-abiding citizens that are just exercising our rights to this protest,” convoy organizer Brian Brase said. But “every day is going to elevate what we do.”
Brase added that the convoy’s goal is to call attention to ending the national state of emergency without violence or lawbreaking.
“We just have a message that we want heard,” Brase said. “We’re not going anywhere until it’s heard.”

During the meeting with Cruz and Johnson, the People’s Convoy announced plans to circle the D.C. Beltway in two lanes.
“We are making some progress!” the group’s Facebook page stated. “First meeting with DC scheduled for tomorrow. Talks have begun … but we aren’t leaving until our demands are met. While leadership is attending the meeting, our convoy will circle the beltway 2 wide for 1 loop.”
On Monday, two young men hung a sign that read, “Trump lost LOL.” Documentarian Ford Fischer was filming the convoy and spoke to the young men.
A couple of counter-protesters stood next to the supporters on the bridge overlooking the beltway where the People’s Convoy was passing.

“It’s not really a counter protest, we just came out here for laughs,” one of the individuals told Fischer.
