At least six people are dead after a Wednesday plane crash in the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince.
The small plane had taken off from the capital around 3:44 p.m. and was flying to the city of Jacmel when it experienced engine failure, according to the Haitian Civil Aviation Authority.
A distress alert was sent out at roughly 4:04 p.m., according to a report.

“I extend my sympathies to the families of the victims, who have been just plunged into the greatest desolation by this new tragedy,” said Prime Minister Ariel Henry in a social media post.
The plane crashed in the commune of Carrefour, where the local mayor announced the incident had claimed six lives.

The pilot was pronounced dead at a local hospital, the report noted.
