Iranian students ‘shame’ protesters for walking on US and Israeli flags

Hundreds of Iranian students refused to step a U.S. flag and Israeli flag while shaming those who did.

Video posted to Twitter on Thursday showed students from Tehran University attempting to avoid stepping on the flags. The students shouted, “Shame on you,” at a couple of people who walked on the flags.

Hillel Neuer, the executive director of UN Watch, shared a video of the students and lauded their actions. “These courageous Iranian students who refuse to trample the U.S. & Israeli flags represent the hope for a better Middle East. Engage with and promote them instead of their oppressors, and maybe Iran-backed wars & terror across the region will end,” he said Thursday.

President Trump also praised the students Friday on Twitter for not trampling the flags. “Wow! The wonderful Iranian protesters refused to step on, or in any way denigrate, our Great American Flag,” Trump stated. “It was put on the street in order for them to trample it, and they walked around it instead. Big progress!”

The students’ actions come as Iranians continue to protest their government’s leadership. Protesters shouted, “Death to the dictator,” last week, and called for his resignation after Iran admitted they shot down a civilian jet, which killed 82 of their citizens.
