‘Off-the-rails wrong’: Fox host blasts Trump if he offered Ukraine a quid pro quo deal

Fox & Friends anchor Steve Doocey said that if President Trump engaged in a quid pro quo deal with Ukrainian government officials to initiate an investigation into Joe Biden’s son then he’d be “off-the-rails wrong.”

The anchors were discussing the Washington Post report that Trump demanded his chief of staff, Mick Mulvaney, to withhold nearly $400 million in military aid until he was able to speak with the incoming president, Volodymyr Zelensky. The story was furthered when Fox News reported that the president wanted to freeze that money until the Ukrainian president agreed to fight corruption.

Brian Kilmeade defended Trump arguing that, “I have no problem with the timing. To me, the timing makes total sense,” while Ainsley Earhardt argued that Democrats are “putting their feet too far ahead” and that judgments should be reserved until the transcript of the phone call is released.

“If the president said ‘I will give you the money but you’ve got to investigate Joe Biden,’ that is really off-the-rails wrong,” Doocy responded.

The question about whether or not the president improperly contacted the Ukrainian government stems from an intelligence community whistleblower who filed a complaint alleging Trump made a “promise” to a foreign leader, however the person who came forward did not hear the comment first-hand.
