Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi condemned President Trump for saying he would be willing to accept opposition research from foreign governments.
“The president once again gave us evidence that he does not know right from wrong. It’s a very sad thing,” the California Democrat said in a Thursday press conference. “I believe that he has been involved in a criminal cover-up. I’ve said that before, and our investigation is showing that.”
“But the president to be so cavalier, to disregard, to be indifferent to wrong and any sense of ethics that who we are as a country to say that he would invite foreign intervention,” Pelosi said. “That is an assault on our democracy.”
Trump said Wednesday in an ABC interview that he would be willing to accept opposition research from a foreign government in the 2020 presidential campaign if offered.
“I think you might want to listen. There’s nothing wrong with listening. If somebody called from a country, Norway, ‘we have information on your opponent.’ Oh, I think I would want to hear it,” Trump said.
“It’s not an interference. They have information, I think I’d take it,” Trump added.
His comments were reproved by Democrats with some saying it was collusion and others calling for impeachment.
“President Trump is once again welcoming foreign interference in our elections. This isn’t about politics. It is a threat to our national security. An American President should not seek their aid and abet those who seek to undermine democracy,” Joe Biden said Wednesday night.

“The #MuellerReport made it clear: A foreign government attacked our 2016 elections to support Trump, Trump welcomed that help, and Trump obstructed the investigation. Now, he said he’d do it all over again. It’s time to impeach Donald Trump,” Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., said.

Trump said Thursday that his comments were taken out of context.
“I meet and talk to “foreign governments” every day. I just met with the Queen of England (U.K.), the Prince of Wales, the P.M. of the United Kingdom, the P.M. of Ireland, the President of France and the President of Poland. We talked about “Everything!” Should I immediately call the FBI about these calls and meetings? How ridiculous! I would never be trusted again. With that being said, my full answer is rarely played by the Fake News Media. They purposely leave out the part that matters,” he said.
