The Club for Growth is launching a $400,000 digital and television advertising campaign attacking Democratic Senate candidate Gov. Steve Bullock for opposing Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination to the Supreme Court and refusing to disavow “court-packing.”
The ads were provided to the Washington Examiner.
The conservative group is tying Bullock to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and “rich donors in New York City” in a bid to bolster incumbent Republican Sen. Steve Daines. Bullock is putting up a fight despite the state’s Republican tendencies and likelihood President Trump will win its three Electoral College votes. Bullock has declined to rule out supporting efforts to add more seats to the Supreme Court, a position that carries some risk in Montana.
The GOP and its allies are hoping the fight to confirm Barrett, the president’s third Supreme Court pick, will succeed in protecting the party’s three-seat Senate majority.
To that end, the Club for Growth also plans to hit digital platforms and the national television airwaves with a second spot. This one praises Barrett for a pro-freedom judicial philosophy that will fuel economic growth. The group is spending $5 million overall on its media effort to promote Barrett’s confirmation.
“The strongest economy in history was built on solid ground that doesn’t shift. For Judge Amy Coney Barrett, the U.S. Constitution reigns supreme,” the ad’s voice-over says. “That’s good for growth. Judge Barrett will rule on the side of freedom, protecting our constitutional right to pursue prosperity. She won’t let unelected bureaucrats rule the economy.”
