Alec Baldwin, who is known for impersonating President Trump on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live,” claimed Monday evening he would defeat the incumbent Republican leader if he challenged him in the 2020 election.
“If I ran, I would win. I would absolutely win — 1,000 percent,” Baldwin told radio personality Howard Stern.
Baldwin added he believes only a “couple people” stand a chance of beating Trump should he choose to run for a second term. He didn’t mention himself as one of the contenders until Stern brought it up.
“I’ve got a name for you: Alec Baldwin,” Stern said. “Why don’t you run for president as Donald Trump?”
“If I ran for president, I would win. Hands down, I would win. It would be the funniest, most exciting, most crazy campaign,” Baldwin replied.
The actor criticized the Democratic Party for lacking a farm team of candidates about a year out from the beginning of the 2020 presidential contest season.
“I’m only saying [I’d run] because people don’t really have a sense of who’s going to come up [among the Democrats],” said Baldwin. “Somebody great’s going to come up, I hope. But the only reason I say that is because I’d love to run for that kind of position, to have things be very common sense. There’s so many things this country needs to do that are so obvious.”
Others in the entertainment industry, including Oprah Winfrey and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, have been rumored as possible candidates.
