The Democratic Party featured an illegal immigrant imploring voters for taxpayer-funded healthcare during its convention Wednesday night.
“I don’t have the right ID, so I can’t get health insurance through the exchange,” Jessica Sanchez, a “Dreamer” and the daughter of Sylvia Sanchez, who came to the United States illegally with hopes of acquiring healthcare for her disabled daughter, said in a video featured at the convention. “I need health insurance. I deserve it, right?”
“Of course you do,” Sylvia Sanchez responded in Spanish to her daughter, who has spina bifida and is confined to a wheelchair. “We all deserve hope, a good life, and health.”
“My mother had no choice,” said Lucy Sanchez, Sylvia’s daughter who was born in the U.S. “There was no time to wait to save my sister. She came here looking for a miracle.”
Sylvia Sanchez went on to criticize the U.S. for “babies” who are “separated from their families at the border.”
“It breaks my heart to see how babies are separated from their families at the border,” she said. “That’s wrong. Those babies need to be with their families.”
The video endorsing citizenship and free healthcare for sick immigrants coincides with Joe Biden’s stated goal of offering a path to citizenship for “all 11 million undocumented immigrants enriching our country.”
The Democratic convention also featured a young girl, 11-year-old Estela Juarez, whose mother was deported by President Bill Clinton, served a deportation order under President Barack Obama, and was deported by President Trump after living in the U.S. illegally for two decades.
“Every day that passes, you deport more moms and dads and take them away from kids like me,” Juarez said. “You separated thousands of children from their parents, and you put them in cages. Some of those kids are now orphans because of you.”
