A new poll gives President Joe Biden’s approval rating a significant boost with less than three months until the midterm elections.

The Associated Press’s findings saw Biden’s overall approval spike to 45% in September, a jump of 9 percentage points compared to its poll in July.

Biden saw an especially large boost from Democrats, 78% of whom now say they approve of Biden’s job as president, compared to 65% in July. Democrats also give Biden more favorable marks on his economic stewardship, with 66% now approving compared to 54% in July.

Biden’s scores from Republicans, however, have remained relatively constant. The September poll gave the president 10% GOP approval, compared to 8% in the previous offering.

There was a moderate bump in confidence in the economy compared to the summer despite inflation and rising costs of food and shelter. In the previous AP poll, just 20% said that economic conditions were good, but in September, that number rose to 29%.

AP conducted this latest poll between Friday and Monday and surveyed 1,054 people. The findings have a 3.9-point margin of error.

Biden plans to capitalize on his late summer bump. He, Vice President Kamala Harris, and other top administration officials have scheduled campaign stops in more than 30 states in the lead-up to November.

Biden himself has traveled to Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Michigan, taking credit for economic progress since the summer and contrasting it with the so-called “MAGA Republican” agenda Democrats claim is a threat to democracy, in addition to increasing costs on middle-class families.

“I will not stand by and watch elections in this country be stolen by people who simply refuse to accept that they lost,” the president said during a prime-time address in Philadelphia in early September. “As your president, I will defend your democracy with every fiber of my being, and I’m asking every American to join me.”
