After a grueling primary season, at long last Donald Trump has his challenger in November 2020: Joe Biden.
After the debacle that was the Wisconsin primary on April 7th, Bernie Sanders announced he was suspending his presidential campaign, and endorsing Joe Biden, paving the way for Biden to clinch the Democratic nomination.
Biden also secured endorsements from his former boss, President Barrack Obama, and Senator Elizabeth Warren. In addition to these, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a Bernie Sanders surrogate, has said that she would support the Democratic nominee, but that Biden would have to make major concessions like taking steps towards Medicare for All and halting deportations of undocumented immigrants.
On top of that, everyone is speculating who Biden’s running mate will be. Many have floated Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., and Stacey Abrams in the past, but because of the coronavirus pandemic, other stars have emerged like New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (better known as “That Woman From Michigan”).
This race could get pretty kooky and if you were blindsided by the 2016 election, you really haven’t seen anything yet.
While the political landscape may seem tamer compared to 2016 given that Trump is already president, the whole race could flip on its head if for some reason Biden gets railroaded at the Democratic convention in August. Oddsmakers are still giving a shot, albeit a long one, to Cuomo, Hillary Clinton, and even Michelle Obama for being the nominee to go up against Trump in November, but with Biden’s former boss, Barack Obama, blessing his campaign with an endorsement, that seems like an even longer shot.
