‘Life is a bitch’: Wedding videography company refuses refund and taunts man after his fiancee died

A wedding videography company is retaliating after its refusal to refund a grieving man’s deposit went viral.

Justin Montney sought a refund for $1,800 after his fiancee, Alexis Wyatt, was killed in a car accident in February in Colorado. While the company the couple had planned to use at their wedding, Copper Stallion Media, has a strict no-refund policy, Montney thought an exception should be permitted given the circumstances.

“They should have been able to do [that] because they didn’t render any services,” he told KRDO-TV this week.

After Montney’s plight went viral, the videography company opted to retaliate instead of giving in to his request. Copper Stallion Media created a website for Montney’s wedding, JustinMontneyWedding.com, where they sought to “build our case against Justin Montney,” noting that he and Wyatt signed a “legally binding contract” on Nov. 29, 2019, according to the local television network.

As of Thursday morning, the website only shows the music video of “Disillusioned” by the band A Perfect Circle.

The grieving fiance reached out to the company less than two weeks after his bride-to-be died when the company shot down his request for a refund and has continued to do so as he followed up since.

“We replied and expressed our sympathy and explained to him that all of our wedding contracts are non-refundable,” the company stated. “He kept emailing us trying to get a refund and we kept reiterating that the contract is non-refundable. We eventually stopped responding since the issue was moot.”

The company also wrote on the personalized website that Montney went to “the failing news station KRDO” to fight his case in the battle of public opinion and accused him of launching a “smear campaign.”

“In the news story he admits that the contract was non-refundable but says we should give the money back due to the circumstance. Life is a bitch, Justin,” the website read. “If we knew he was going to shake us down, we would have charged a higher deposit.”

On Saturday, the company posted a photo of the couple with the following: “Today would have been the day where we would have filmed Justin and Alexis’ wedding. After what Justin pulled with the media stunt to try and shake us down for a refund we hope you sob and cry all day for what would have been your wedding day. Sorry not sorry,” according to local news TV station Denver7.
