Vice President Kamala Harris awkwardly laughed Thursday when asked about the Ukrainian refugee crisis during a joint press conference with Polish President Andrzej Duda in Warsaw.
During her trip to Poland, a reporter asked Harris what the United States would be doing to set up a permanent infrastructure for accepting Ukrainian refugees fleeing Ukraine due to the Russian invasion. The reporter also asked Duda whether he’s asked the U.S. to accept more refugees, after which Harris started laughing.
“A friend in need is a friend indeed,” Harris said while laughing before allowing Duda to answer first. Duda said he had asked the U.S. to speed up its approval of refugees who have family in America and to take in some of the refugees who have come into his country.

“We are looking for international support because indeed the vast majority of Ukrainian refugees are coming to our country,” Duda said.
Harris did not commit the U.S. to a certain amount of refugees, but she said the country would extend visas for Ukrainians already on a visa in the U.S. that would otherwise expire.
“As we have said many times through our work collectively in the U.N. through NATO, we will support Poland in terms of the burden it is facing and our collective responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of these refugees,” Harris said, according to the New York Post.
