Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar announced new measures President Trump will take through executive order to encourage kidney donations and at-home dialysis care.
Azar told reporters Wednesday morning that live donors would receive federal compensation, as well as childcare, for their time in the hospital. “We’re also making new efforts to address the financial efforts for donors, with federal compensation and childcare,” he said.
Azar further said that the administration plans to double the number of available kidneys, both artificial kidneys and from live donors, by 2030.
Trump is expected to discuss incentives for dialysis clinics, including Da Vita and Fresenius, to encourage patients to procure kidneys for transplant as well as to implement at-home dialysis treatments, which are less intrusive and avoid mental and physical strain for patients.
