House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said definitively Tuesday night that the Democratic Party will win next week in the 2018 midterm elections.
“Up until today, I would have said, if the elections were held today we would win,” Pelosi told Stephen Colbert on the Late Show. “Now I’m saying, we will win.”
Colbert joked that she shouldn’t say that, and asked if she wanted to go make those claims near former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s “fireworks barge she canceled” after losing to now-President Trump.

“We will win, we own the ground… Democrats will carry the House, and if we have a bigger victory — the Senate, governorships — it’s going to be a great night for America,” Pelosi said, and was met with applause from the audience, but skeptical looks from the host, who asked if she was already measuring curtains.
“I feel like I should sacrifice a goat or something to take the hex off of what you just said,” Colbert responded.
In answering a lot of her questions, Pelosi would preface her responses with phrases like, “when we win,” touting her confidence that the Democrats would gain a majority in at least the House.
In 2016, many expressed their confidence that Clinton would win the presidency over Trump, which is why Colbert was so hesitant to agree with Pelosi.
The midterm elections are less than a week away.
