15-year sentence for gang member

A member of the Latin Kings street gang was sentenced to 15 years in prison for his role in the armed robbery a prostitute in Laurel in 2007.

Nelson Santos, 27, of Silver Spring, was sentenced Friday in federal court in Greenbelt.

Santos pleaded guilty in July. He admitted to participating in gang-sanctioned missions, including the robbery of the prostitute.

Court records show that Santos and other Latin King members were armed with a gun and knife in the December 2007 incident. They forced the woman to strip naked while they ransacked the room. A man in the room was held captive in the bathroom and pistol-whipped on the head.
