Cruz slams Biden claim that ‘Climate Day’ is also ‘Jobs Day’: ‘Don’t be fooled’

Sen. Ted Cruz took issue with President Biden’s claim that “climate day” at the White House on Wednesday should also be referred to as “jobs day.”

“Don’t be fooled by President Biden’s claim that climate day at the WH = jobs day,” the Texas Republican tweeted Wednesday. “Just because he says it’s ‘jobs day’ doesn’t mean it’s true. Today’s climate EO would result in the loss of over 80,000 blue-collar jobs in Texas — the most of any state.”

Earlier in the day, Biden touted his green energy plan at the White House as a job-creating move amid heavy criticism of the job losses caused by his administration’s shift away from fossil fuels.

“Today is ‘Climate Day’ at the White House and — which means that today is ‘Jobs Day’ at the White House,” the president said.

“We’re going to take money and invest it in clean energy jobs in America — millions of jobs in wind, solar, and carbon capture,” Biden added.

Biden signed three executive orders Wednesday, which froze new oil and gas leases on public lands and offshore waters “wherever possible,” created the White House Office of Domestic Climate Policy, and protected government scientists from political interference.

In addition to Cruz’s opposition to the freeze on new oil and gas leases, at least four Texas Democrats in Congress have urged Biden to rescind the order.

Democratic Reps. Vicente Gonzalez, Henry Cuellar, Lizzie Pannill, and Marc Veasey wrote a letter criticizing Biden’s “far reaching” order.
