Police identify man suspected in string of Austin bombings

Law enforcement officials identified the man suspected of orchestrating a string of bombings in Austin as 24-year-old Mark Anthony Conditt.

Officials have not yet ruled out the possibility that Conditt may have had accomplices in the bombings, the New York Times reported.

Local city police say Conditt self-detonated a bomb in his car as SWAT team members closed in on him Wednesday morning. He died as a result of the blast.

Conditt lived in Pflugerville, a suburb 20 miles northeast of downtown Austin, a law enforcement official said.

Since there may be accomplices and Conditt may have planted more bomb packages before committing suicide, Austin police chief Brian Manley reminded citizens to be on the lookout for other packages.

“We still need to remain vigilant,” Manley said. “We do not know where he has been in the past 24 hours.”
