Deutsche Bank asks Democrats for more time to provide details on Trump’s alleged Russia ties

Deutsche Bank, Germany’s largest bank, asked for more time to respond to a request for more information on the investigation into possible ties between Russia and the Trump campaign.

A source told Reuters Deutsche Bank’s external counsel wrote to the five House Democrats asking for more time, although the source did not specify how much time was requested.

Five Democrats on the U.S. House Financial Services Committee sent a letter to Deutsche Bank in May requesting information on internal reviews of Trump’s transactions at the bank, which could include money laundering and trade deals like buying Russian stocks in roubles or selling securities for U.S. dollars, Reuters reports.

“Congress remains in the dark on whether loans Deutsche Bank made to President Trump were guaranteed by the Russian government, or were in any way connected to Russia,” the letter request for Deutsche Bank read.

House Democrats have the power to subpoena the information from Deutsche Bank, but they would need the cooperation of House Republicans. No Republicans signed the document request, according to Reuters.

Reuters reported Deutsche Bank declined to comment on Trump’s business dealings at the bank.
