US Chamber of Commerce chief calls on Trump to stop delaying transition to Biden presidency

United States Chamber of Commerce CEO Tom Donohue on Thursday stated that Joe Biden is the president-elect and that President Trump should not delay the transition process any longer.

“President-elect Biden and the team around him have a wealth of executive branch experience that should allow them to hit the ground running,” Donohue said in a statement to Axios.

Donohue, on Nov. 7, congratulated Biden and Democratic Sen. Kamala Harris on their win after major news organizations declared them the victors of the Nov. 3 election. Trump has maintained that he won the election and challenged vote counts in court.

“The U.S. Chamber stands ready to work with the Biden administration and leaders on both sides of the aisle to restore public health, revitalize our economy, and help rebuild American lives and communities,” Donohue said.

Other business leaders have also called on Trump to allow a smooth transition of power from his administration to the Biden administration.

Joshua Bolten, the president and CEO of the Business Roundtable, on Nov. 7 suggested that Trump should begin working with the Biden administration on the transition of power.

“While we respect the Trump campaign’s right to seek recounts, to call for investigation of alleged voting irregularities where evidence exists and to exhaust legitimate legal remedies, there is no indication that any of these would change the outcome … In the days ahead, it is critical that we move forward together to strengthen our country,” he said when congratulating Biden and Harris on their wins.

The National Association of Manufacturers on Nov. 18 also called on Trump to work with the Biden administration.

“We call on the Trump administration to work cooperatively with President-elect Biden and his team,” the National Association of Manufacturers President and CEO Jay Timmons and other NAM leaders said on Wednesday.
