Planned Parenthood is launching a nationwide digital ad buy aimed at pressuring senators to oppose Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court.
The ads will run in all 50 states through July and focus specifically on the future of reproductive rights.
“We know we can defeat Kavanaugh’s nomination — already activists are organizing rallies and flooding Senate offices with calls. It’s time for us to join together,” Planned Parenthood Action Fund Executive Vice President Dawn Laguens said in a statement. “Together our voices are too loud for the Senate — or even the president — to ignore.”
The ad focuses on Trump’s statements about the Supreme Court and Roe v. Wade during the October 2016 presidential debate in Las Vegas.
When asked whether he wants to see the Supreme Court overturn Roe, Trump responded “that will happen” if he appoints up to three justices to the high court.
A narrator tells viewers to urge their senators to oppose Kavanaugh and “protect our constitutional right to abortion.”
Planned Parenthood has also mobilized activists who are organizing events centered around opposition to Kavanaugh’s nomination. Events include town halls, phone banking, and rallies, the group said.
Trump announced Monday he would nominate Kavanaugh, a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, to the Supreme Court.
If Kavanaugh is confirmed by the Senate, he would be Trump’s second justice named to the court, following Justice Neil Gorsuch.
Senate Democrats and liberal groups are focusing on abortion rights and health care as key issues that could be in jeopardy if there is are five conservative justices on the Supreme Court.
