‘Get deathly serious’: Charlie Kirk warns CPAC that Bernie Sanders has real chance to win presidency

Conservative activist Charlie Kirk issued a warning to conservatives about the upcoming 2020 presidential election.

While speaking to an audience at the 2020 Conservative Political Action Conference on Thursday, Kirk said Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders has a real chance of winning the White House if conservatives did not place full support by President Trump in the election.

“I push back when people say ‘Well there’s no way that Bernie Sanders could become president of the United States.’ No, he could win,” Kirk said to the audience in National Harbor, Maryland. “I want every conservative activist to get your laughs out of the way and your mockery out of the way and get deathly serious. Because we should not do what the left did in 2016 and dismiss an outsider populist candidate.”

Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, which helped foster the conservative movement on college campuses around the country, invoked a quote often attributed to conservative author and commentator Andrew Breitbart, who died in 2012 at age 43. “As the great Andrew Breitbart taught us, politics flows downstream from culture,” Kirk said, advising conservatives to combat support for Sanders on college campuses.

He urged the audience to stop donating to their alma maters, saying they “indoctrinate” young people to become activists for the socialist presidential candidate.

Kirk’s organization started a “Culture War” college speaking tour in 2019, where they appear on campuses to discuss principles of “American exceptionalism,” “free market capitalism,” and “limited government.”
