Hellboy vs. Jim Jordan: Ted Cruz challenges Hollywood actor to $10K wrestling match

Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz took his criticism of Hollywood to a new level last night when he challenged a well-known actor to a wrestling match against former collegiate wrestler, Republican Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan.

In a late-night Twitter exchange on Sunday, Cruz jabbed at Hellboy star Ron Pearlman, betting the actor that he “couldn’t last 5 min” in the cage with Jordan.

“Listen Hellboy. You talk good game when you’ve got Hollywood makeup & stuntmen,” Cruz tweeted. “But I’ll bet $10k—to the nonpolitical charity of your choice—that you couldn’t last 5 min in the wrestling ring w/ @Jim_Jordan w/o getting pinned. You up for it? Or does your publicist say too risky?”

The high-profile spat between politicians and the celebrity came after President Trump tweeted a Washington Examiner article highlighting Republican Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz’s suggestion that the United States should not have a national team if players refuse to stand for the national anthem.

Pearlman said the U.S. Soccer could care less about “what two dipshits think” and tagged Gaetz and Trump. This set off a back and forth between Gaetz and Pearlman that ended with Pearlman posting a picture of Jordan and telling Gaetz that the Ohio Republican was the only person in Congress uglier than him.

Cruz interjected himself into the discussion and challenged Pearlman to a wrestle Jordan, a former collegiate wrestling coach. Pearlman shot back at Cruz, saying that he wanted Cruz for himself and that he would happily oblige if the proceeds went to Black Lives Matter.

Cruz and Gaetz have repeatedly criticized Hollywood movie studios and Cruz introduced the Stopping Censorship, Restoring Integrity, Protecting Talkies Act, which would prohibit the Department of Defense from loaning equipment to studios who allow the Chinese Communist Party to censor new films.
