A new poll, commissioned by a PAC supporting former President Donald Trump, shows that Rep. Liz Cheney’s popularity has taken a hit since voting in favor of impeachment earlier this month.
Almost 75% of Republican voters in Wyoming, and just over 60% of voters overall, expressed a negative opinion of Cheney in a poll carried out by pollster John McLaughlin between Jan. 25-26.
“Liz Cheney’s decision to vote to impeach President Trump makes her extremely vulnerable,” McLaughlin said about the results. “It is evident her ratings are in bad shape among general election voters and have collapsed among Republicans and Trump voters.”
The survey was paid for by Save America, a newly formed pro-Trump Super PAC with the goal of supporting primary challenges to Republican members of Congress who supported the second impeachment of Trump.
Cheney joined nine other Republican members of the House in voting to impeach Trump on Jan. 13 for “incitement of insurrection” following a rally of Trump supporters that turned violent on Capitol Hill earlier this month.
Cheney, the third highest-ranking Republican in the House and daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, said in a statement following the incident that Trump “summoned this mob, assembled the mob, and lit the flame of this attack.” She added that “there has never been a greater betrayal by a president of the United States of his office and his oath to the constitution.”
Trump’s oldest son, Donald Trump Jr., took to Twitter Wednesday night and called for Cheney to be removed from her leadership position.
“Liz Cheney’s favorables in WY are slightly worse than her fathers shooting skills… it’s time to get this RINO out of GOP leadership!” Trump Jr. tweeted. “Leadership is supposed to raise $, recruit new members, and lead. She has literally done none of those things!”

Cheney, who won nearly 70% of the vote in her last election, has earned words of encouragement from her constituents since the impeachment vote, including in a glowing op-ed in the Casper Star-Tribune written by 30 Wyoming lawyers and judges, including three former governors.
“We are proud of Rep. Cheney’s courage,” the article read. “In the face of calls to lawlessness from high places she adhered to her solemn oath to protect and defend the Constitution. Whatever political differences any may have with her, in connection with the election and the events of January 6th, all Wyomingites should applaud her understanding of her constitutional duties and her willingness to perform them, irrespective of the personal or political cost she might pay.”
Cheney’s office declined a request for comment from the Washington Examiner.
