Joe Biden may be the front-runner, but his campaign does not intend to walk away with the Democratic presidential nomination any time soon.
A member of the former vice president’s team said they believe the contest will not be decided at least until March.
“We believe that this contest will go far into Super Tuesday and beyond and so we are preparing for the long haul … we believe this is going to be a fight,” a member of Biden’s team said, according to a Wall Street Journal reporter.
Super Tuesday, one of the most important days in presidential primary season, will take place March 3 next year with a flurry of states and territories holding their primaries or caucuses that day.
Biden is the clear front-runner in a crowded field. He has 26.8% support in the latest RealClearPolitics average of polls. Behind him are Sens. Bernie Sanders with 17.3% and Elizabeth Warren with 16.8%.
Along with seven other candidates, all three will appear on-stage together for the first time this election cycle Thursday evening in a Democratic primary debate in Houston.
