A Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee quipped that there might be a chance to redeem Hillary Clinton after the Justice Department rejected former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe’s appeal to avoid criminal charges for lying to federal agents.
With a touch of snark, Rep. Ted Lieu called on Republicans to pursue justice for Clinton because McCabe’s actions may have hurt her chances to win the 2016 presidential election.
“McCabe is alleged to have lied about his leaking of negative information that hurt Hillary Clinton’s campaign,” the California Democrat said in a tweet. “I look forward to hearing ideas from [Republicans] on how we restore justice for Hillary Clinton.”
Lieu was responding to Rep. Mark Meadows, who tweeted “Wow” when federal prosecutors formally recommended criminal charges against McCabe. “Hopefully this is merely the beginning of long overdue accountability. Justice will be done,” the North Carolina Republican said in a tweet.

Former Attorney General Jeff Sessions fired McCabe in March 2018, less than two days before he was set to retire, prompted by a Justice Department inspector general report that found he misled former FBI Director James Comey and investigators about leaks to the media in late 2016 regarding the Clinton emails investigation and an inquiry into the Clinton Foundation, which had not yet been made public.
