The definition of a stupid crime A bank robbery was thwarted after a quick-thinking employee talked the man who said he had a bomb into filling out paperwork for a loan, reports the Santa Cruz (Calif.) Sentinel.
Police said Mark Smith, 59, walked into a bank, claimed he had a bomb in his backpack and demanded $2,000 to pay his friend’s rent.
A bank manager suggested that he could simply take out a loan and had Smith sit down while she retrieved the paperwork. That’s when she alerted police.
Smith was arrested on attempted robbery, making criminal threats and making a false bomb report.
If you don’t, the terrorists win
A North Dakota man is facing felony charges after coming up with the most outlandish excuse to get his ex-girlfriend to have sex with him.
After breaking up with his girlfriend, 18-year-old Ryne Anderson told his ex that his life was in danger. He claimed that drug dealers were watching both of them and that their lives were in danger unless “certain demands weren’t met within a specific time frame.”
To save herself and her family, the girl agreed to sex on two occasions. She later told her family. Authorities charged Anderson with sexual imposition and terrorizing.
Twice as much ain’t twice as good
A Colorado man was quickly arrested twice for DUI — once while driving his own car, the second time for stealing the police car as he waited to be taken in.
Adam Segura was handcuffed and placed inside a squad car. While the officer interviewed a witness, Segura slipped the cuffs in front of him and drove away. Officers chased him for about a mile before he was arrested again.
It must be amateur night
Two DUIs in one night? That’s nothing.
Tommy Ryser, a 54-year-old Washington state man, is facing three DUIs at once.
This is how he did it, according to sheriff’s deputies: First, Ryser crashed his truck into a utility pole, abandoned that vehicle and got in his wife’s Volkswagen. But then crashed that car into a guardrail. When that happened, he got his tow truck and attempted to move the vehicles. He was arrested after he pulled up to the scene of one of the crashes while police were investigating.
One-legged man escapes on foot
Deputies in Florida are trying to track down George Bush, a one-legged man who they say escaped on foot.
Officers in Orange County pulled over the suspect, but the motorist sped off through a residential community, nearly striking a group of children waiting for a school bus before crashing into a utility pole.
After the crash — which shut off electricity to several nearby homes — Bush climbed out of his vehicle and made his way into a wooded area.
