Roger Stone: An ‘illegal attempt’ to remove Trump leads to ‘civil war’

Trump ally Roger Stone believes the U.S. will face a “civil war” if President Trump is impeached by Congress on improper grounds.

“If there is an illegal attempt to remove the president, you’re going to have a civil war in this country,” Stone told Newsweek in an interview published Wednesday.

“There’s white-hot hatred for Trump and there is white-hot opposition to an attempt to [re]move him. Anything that is judged to be doctored or cooked up, it’s not going to go well,” Stone continued.

Stone, a political operative who worked for former President Richard Nixon, has caused issues for Trump with respect to the federal and congressional Russia investigations when he appeared to foreshadow the release of Hillary Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta’s emails ahead of a WikiLeaks dump in 2016 before the presidential election. Stone’s statements have piqued the interest of the House and Senate Intelligence committees, as well as that of special counsel Robert Mueller.

Despite his support of Trump, he has been critical of some of the president’s moves, including the nomination of Gina Haspel for CIA director — who has since been confirmed and sworn in — and his signing a $1.3 trillion omnibus spending bill into law, according to the news outlet.

Stone also thinks Trump “absolutely” had an extramarital affair with porn star Stormy Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, regardless of the president’s denials.

“First of all, she’s his type. Look at his wives. He likes tall, busty women,” he told Newsweek.

Stone added that Trump reimbursing personal lawyer Michael Cohen the $130,000 Cohen paid Daniels in exchange for her staying silent about her alleged sexual encounter with the president more than a decade ago “has been problematic.”

“It doesn’t make sense to me,” Stone said, before explaining the reimbursement could form a possible federal election law violation.
