Rudy Giuliani compared House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to former Sen. Joe McCarthy during the Red Scare of the 1950s.
“Pelosi said [President Trump] should go to prison. But she said nothing about a trial or a jury or a presumption of innnocence [sic]. Is this worse than Joe McCarthy? They are destroying any adherence to our constitution. And the Fake News failure to hold them accountable is corrupt,” Trump’s personal lawyer tweeted Sunday.

McCarthy, a Republican senator from Wisconsin, launched highly publicized investigations into alleged Communist infiltration of the U.S. government. The paranoia, referred to as the Red Scare, reached a climax in the early 1950s.
Giuliani was referring to Pelosi reportedly saying she wanted to see Trump in prison rather than being impeached. She also reportedly said she wanted to see Trump defeated in the 2020 election and then prosecuted for his alleged crimes.
Pelosi has thus far pushed back against starting impeachment proceedings against Trump in response to his actions during the Russia investigation.
“Pelosi wants to see [Trump] in prison. She doesn’t have a particular crime in mind just prison. If you can’t see she’s over the top, if not over the Hill, you are blinded by partisanship or hatred,” Giuliani also said.
