Anthony Rapp’s lawsuit against Kevin Spacey to be heard in court

Anthony Rapp, a prominent actor who starred in Rent on Broadway and in the television series Star Trek: Discovery, is slated to have his sexual assault lawsuit against Kevin Spacey heard in court Thursday.

Rapp first spoke out about allegations against the once widely acclaimed actor Spacey in 2017, which resulted in several other allegations against the star of the multi-award-winning film American Beauty and the popular Netflix series House of Cards.

Within Rapp’s September 2020 lawsuit, he alleged Spacey, an older male actor, made sexual advances on him when Rapp attended a party as a teenager. When the younger actor first made his public accusation, Spacey issued a statement apologizing but said he did not remember the encounter.

The U.S. District Court in the Southern District of New York is expected to hear oral arguments on Thursday from Spacey’s defense. The actor’s legal team is attempting to exclude certain pieces of evidence from the trial, according to Fox News.

Judge Lewis A. Kaplan is slated to preside over the hearing at 3 p.m. via video conference to also discuss Rapp’s motion over Spacey’s privilege log. The lawsuit was also filed with a co-plaintiff who went by the initials “C.D.”

Due to the plaintiff’s inability to publicly disclose his identity, his accusations were dismissed, but Rapp was permitted to move to trial.

C.D. alleges he had a prolonged sexual relationship with Spacey when he was 14 while the actor was 24 years old. The purported underage encounters culminated in an attempted rape, the plaintiff claimed.
