After one day of life under the Biden administration, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has a reminder for the new president: his days are numbered.
Pompeo shared a countdown to Election Day 2024 in a tweet Thursday morning, simply writing, “1,384 days.”

Pompeo’s tweet prompted speculation from social media users who think the Kansas Republican may be vying for the nation’s highest office. Rachel Vindman, who is married to the lieutenant colonel who testified against former President Donald Trump during his first impeachment trial, dismissed any future candidacy from the former secretary of state.
“Until you’re still not president?” she wrote.

Molly Jong-Fast, editor-at-large at the Daily Beast, also ridiculed Pompeo’s potential political ambitions.
“You really do think you’re going to be president next, don’t you?” she tweeted.

Others were more cryptic in their reactions to Pompeo’s tweet. CNN anchor Jake Tapper left his thoughts on Pompeo’s potential candidacy unwritten in a Thursday morning tweet.
“People took different lessons from the Trump presidency,” he wrote.

If Pompeo does decide to jump into the fray in 2024, he will likely face steep competition. Among dozens of other Republicans whose names have been floated as possible contenders, Pompeo’s former boss has hinted at a potential return to the White House. Flanked by 17 American flags and a crowd of supporters on Wednesday, the former president bid the nation farewell while also vowing a return.
“Remember us,” Trump said. “We will be back in some form.”
