60 Minutes correspondent Lesley Stahl said she’s healthy after being hospitalized with the coronavirus and pneumonia.
Stahl, 78, revealed her diagnosis in the final moments of Sunday’s edition of 60 Minutes on CBS and praised the medical workers who took care of her as she recovered from a dire health situation.
“After two weeks at home, in bed, weak, fighting pneumonia, and really scared, I went to the hospital. I found an overworked, nearly overwhelmed staff,” she said. “Every one of them was kind and sympathetic, gentle and caring from the moment I arrived until the moment, days later, when I was wheeled out through a gauntlet of cheering medical workers. In the face of so much death, they celebrate their triumphs.”
Stahl, who joined the show in 1991, also revealed she was not the only member of the 60 Minutes team to contract the virus. She said one infected colleague had barely any symptoms, while others “had almost every symptom you can imagine.”
Stahl joins a growing list of media members who have contracted the virus, including ABC News’s George Stephanopoulos, CNN’s Brooke Baldwin and Chris Cuomo, and Fox News’s Jedediah Bila. All three have said they have recovered from it.
Approximately 1.2 million people in the United States have been diagnosed with the virus, and approximately 62,000 people have died, according to Johns Hopkins University.
