‘Will be very hard, if not impossible, to replace!’: Trump reacts to death of Elijah Cummings

President Trump addressed the death of political rival Rep. Elijah Cummings, calling him “highly respected.”

In a Thursday morning tweet, Trump offered condolences to the family of the Maryland Democrat who died at the age of 68.

“My warmest condolences to the family and many friends of Congressman Elijah Cummings. I got to see first hand the strength, passion and wisdom of this highly respected political leader. His work and voice on so many fronts will be very hard, if not impossible, to replace!” Trump said.

Trump sparred with Cummings earlier this year after he called the Baltimore district that he represented a “rodent-infested mess” where “no human being would want to live.”

Cummings was chairman of the House Oversight Committee, one of the key committees taking part in the Democrat-led impeachment inquiry into Trump.
