President Trump argued Friday that former FBI Director James Comey doesn’t seem to understand that he may have leaked classified information to the press.
“Is everybody believing what is going on. James Comey can’t define what a leak is,” Trump tweeted. “He illegally leaked CLASSIFIED INFORMATION but doesn’t understand what he did or how serious it is.”
“He lied all over the place to cover it up,” he added. “He’s either very sick or very dumb. Remember sailor!”

His last line is an apparent reference to the Navy sailor who took pictures of a Navy vessel and sent them around, which led to a conviction against him. Trump later pardoned him, but Trump has argued that the government was much harsher on the sailor than it has been against Comey.
In a Fox News interview Thursday night, Comey seemed to argue he didn’t leak his memos at all, because they were more like a “diary.” He also said the contents of the memos were not classified, although the Justice Department is currently reviewing whether that’s true.
On CNN Wednesday, Comey said he only thinks of a leak as an “unauthorized disclosure of classified information.”
