Fox News host Sean Hannity said former FBI Director James Comey is a “key focus” of two Justice Department investigations into possible wrongdoing during the Russia investigation.
In his opening monologue Wednesday evening, Hannity referenced the Justice Department review of the origins of the Russia investigation and DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s inquiry into alleged abuses of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.
“We’re told that James Comey, yes Mr. Super patriot, the one that teaches us about morality, is a key focus of each damning probe. Tick tock, Jimbo,” Hannity said during his show Wednesday evening.
Last week, the Justice Department inspector general released a report that strongly rebuked Comey for how he handled memos describing his discussions with President Trump. The Justice Department declined to prosecute Comey for his behavior, but some Trump allies believe the 83-page report sets the stage for Comey to be charged later on.
For instance, Rep. Devin Nunes said this week Horowitz’s report provides a “tremendous amount of evidence” for a conspiracy case that could involve Comey. The California Republican sent eight criminal referrals to the Justice Department, two of which focus on conspiracy, earlier this year.
Hannity also accused FBI Director Christopher Wray of fighting transparency efforts and “not working hard to clean up his FBI.”
