Trump signals Rod Rosenstein is on the outs as the ‘most conflicted of all’

President Trump signaled Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein is getting on his bad side in another morning tweet about the country’s diplomatic relationship with Russia.

“Much of the bad blood with Russia is caused by the Fake & Corrupt Russia Investigation, headed up by the all Democrat loyalists, or people that worked for Obama. Mueller is most conflicted of all (except Rosenstein who signed FISA & Comey letter). No Collusion, so they go crazy!” Trump tweeted.

Despite the president’s assertion that Mueller and Rosenstein are among the “Democratic loyalists” who are running the Russia investigation, both are long-time Republicans.

Rosenstein’s job security has been the subject of speculation in Washington for months. The rumor mill has kicked into another gear this week after Rosenstein authorized FBI agents from the southern district of New York to raid the office and hotel room of Trump’s personal lawyer, Michael Cohen.

Rosenstein and Attorney General Jeff Sessions have both been major targets of Trump’s ire in recent days.

“The attorney general made a terrible mistake when he did this and when he recused himself or he certainly should have let us know if he was going to recuse himself and we would have put a different attorney general in,” Trump told reporters Monday. “So, he made what I consider to be a very terrible mistake for the country. But you’ll figure that out.”

On Rosenstein, at the same meeting, Trump said, “Well, I turned out to do the right thing [by firing Comey]. If you look at all of the things he’s done and the lies and you look at what’s going on at the FBI … turned out I did the right thing. But, it turns out he also signed the FISA warrant — Rod Rosenstein, who’s in charge, also signed the FISA warrant, and he also wrote the letter that fired Comey, and he was right about that. He was absolutely right about that.”
