Michael Avenatti: Don’t blame me for Kavanaugh confirmation

Porn star lawyer Michael Avenatti is rejecting complaints from Democrats that he made it easier for Republicans to confirm Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh by raising questionable charges of sexual assault against him.

Avenatti represented Julie Swetnick, who said in a sworn affidavit that Kavanaugh drugged girls and was involved in gang rapes. But the extreme and unverified claims allowed Republicans to say Democrats were throwing up outlandish claims in an effort to tear Kavanaugh down, and some said Avenatti went too far.

But Avenatti said Monday he can’t take the blame for Kavanaugh’s confirmation.

“This is what happens when certain members of the media are in such a rush to push a completely false & bogus narrative,” he tweeted. “The idea that actions by me and my client led to the end result is baseless. I guess we are the reason Garland was never confirmed as well. #Pathetic”

Avenatti also joked that Democrats will now try to blame him for everything that goes wrong for them.

“I can confirm that I am responsible for the following (as claimed by unnamed Dem politicians and staffers): Willie Horton, 2000 recount, Monica Lewinsky, Clarence Thomas, no-vote on Garland, Kavanaugh confirmation, 2016 election loss, HRC emails, Russia meddling,& climate change,” he tweeted.

Avenatti represents porn star Stormy Daniels, but has also represented illegal immigrant families and Swetnick, and he has billed himself as a possible presidential candidate who will fight to replace President Trump.

But that seemingly long-shot effort may have gotten tougher after Kavanaugh’s confirmation, as several stories have suggested he went too far in the fight against Kavanaugh.
