A Chicago man who police said fired a bullet that struck an infant last week was on probation and in possession of an illegal firearm.
Video surveillance shows suspect Teantun Davis, 21, exiting a vehicle in the city’s Old Town neighborhood around 7 p.m. on Friday. Davis allegedly fired 14 rounds at two men who were eating near a storefront. One of them was hit in the shoulder, and another was hit in the buttocks.
A 5-month-old baby, who was lying inside a stroller about 100 yards away when the gunfire broke out, was also hit in his right eye, prosecutors said.
Police said Davis returned to his vehicle after the shooting and fled the scene. Police said Davis threw a handgun as he fled, which was forensically linked to the bullets that injured the three people in Old Town. Police said the gun had been stolen in 2018.
Chicago Police officers caught up with Davis when he crashed his car on the 3900 block of South Wentworth Avenue, nearly 8 miles from the scene of the shooting.
Prosecutors told CWB Chicago Davis is on two years of probation for illegal possession of a firearm and had been arrested on that case in June 2019.
All three of the victims, including the infant, are expected to recover from their injuries. Davis has been charged with two felony counts: one for aggravated battery by discharge of a firearm and another for unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.
He is currently being held without bond.
