Former Democratic mayor from New Orleans on 2020 run: ‘I don’t think so’

Former New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu said that he is probably not going to run for president in 2020.

“I don’t think so,” Landrieu told CNN when asked if he was considering a run. “I never say never, but at this point in time, I don’t think I’m going to do it.”

Landrieu is one of the several Democrats that had been considering a bid for president.

Landrieu said one factor in his decision is the already-crowded Democratic field that he said is filled with candidates who would do a better job than President Trump.

The former mayor said he believes Stacey Abrams, who lost the Georgia governor race in 2018 and delivered the Democrat rebuttal to Trump’s State of the Union address Tuesday night, would be a good candidate.

Some high-profile Democrats who have already decided to run are Sens. Kamala Harris of California, Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, and Cory Booker of New Jersey, along with Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii.
